DOUGLAS DARE NEW YORK

Following up on tracks “Doublethink” and “Oh Father”, Douglas Dare continues to captivate us in the run up to his sophomore album, Aforger - a piece which calls on the fragile boundaries between reality and fiction in the increasingly digitally dependent world in which we inhabit. Throughout “New York”, Dare chronicles a crumbling belief system that he held in a relationship and how that affects his views on people, places and even his own everyday actions. He constantly questions whether the past was in fact a fantasy in that trademark vocal which passionately switches between soulful growls, soaring pleas and pure half-spoken sentiments. Led by his childhood instrument the piano, this London-based artist creates an Inception-style amalgamation of sounds with crisps chords, marching snares, theatrical horns, shattering tambourines and a cyclical sample of a choir. With only four days until Dare’s album drops via Erased Tape Records, there’s no doubt that the complex, uncanny and honest “New York” will keep listeners transfixed until then. -HT
